Willie Harris Jazz and Blues Jam…. April 20th 2008
One word sums up this event …INCREDIBLE!
 For those of you who were there… you know what I’m talking about. For those of you who were not, I strongly encourage you to mark it on your calendar for next year. The music began at 6pm and didn’t stop for four hours!! And this wasn’t just your average music! This was a collaboration of more than 18 of the finest musicians in the Valley and beyond. One guest commented that he felt like he was in New York City. I understood completely because my mind had drifted off to New Orleans more than a couple of times that evening, and that same soulful music you experience there. These musicians did not show up for money, or recognition, instead they were there to honor an old friend, support a great cause, and because music is in their soul, just as it was with Willie Harris. I did not have the honor of knowing Willie while he was alive, but I did not need to know him to feel his spirit that night. From his friends on stage to the roomful of patrons (ranging in age from 21 to eighty-something) it was quite clear that his spirit lives on.
It is my honor to recognize Michael Hathaway for his great efforts in coordinating this event, and the 18 musicians who made it one to remember! Thank you to all for a spectacular evening!
